He came to that which belonged to Him [to His own—His domain, creation, things, world], and they who were His own did not receive Him and did not welcome Him. But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority (power, privilege, right) to become the children of God .... John 1:11-12 (AMP)
"Our plans, independent of God, were never meant to work."
>We've been talking about why we don't pay attention to God and, I want to be frank, one of those reasons is because we don't want God in our lives. We want to be God. We want to run our own lives. We think, 'God you stay on your side of the fence, I'll stay on mine.'
But it doesn't work that way. You were made to know God. You were made to be loved by him and you were made to learn to love him back. But it is our human nature to say, 'I don't think I want to go God's way. I think I know more than God. I think I know what will make me happy better than God does, so I'm keeping with my own plan.'
Well, how is it working out? Have you reached all your goals and met all your dreams? Are you fully satisfied? Is life exactly what you expected it to be? The truth is you have disappointments and problems in your life.
Why? Because your plan doesn't work and my plan doesn't work. Our plans, independent of God, were never meant to work.
That's why we need to make room for Jesus Christ in our lives. I do this so I can know my Creator and Savior who loves me. Don't you think that if you talked to the Creator and read the owner's manual (the Bible), life will be a lot simpler?
The Bible says, "[Jesus] came to that which belonged to Him ... and they who were His own did not receive Him and did not welcome Him. But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the authority ... to become the children of God ...." (John 1:11-12 AMP)
In other words, when I connect with Jesus, I get to become a part of God's family. God becomes my Father the moment I put my trust in His Son, Jesus. God is the Creator of everyone. God loves everyone, but God is only the Father of those who choose to be in his family by believing in His Son, Jesus.
