And his commands are not too hard for us. 1 John 5:3 (TEV)
"The seed cast in the gravel—this is the person who hears and instantly responds with enthusiasm. But there is no soil of character, and so when the emotions wear off and some difficulty arrives, there is nothing to show for it."
Matthew 13:20-21 (MSG)
Dateline 2020 – Today at church we celebrated all the things God has done through individuals and small groups over this past Decade of Destiny. There were so many stories of changed lives and people fulfilling their destinies that I left knowing beyond any doubt that God is real and powerful – and active in our lives.
Most of the people talked about the importance of following through on the goals God had given them. And, with 20/20 hindsight, I looked back over the last ten years and saw how I’d bounced from one thing to another, never really focusing on God’s plan for my life.
I remember setting some goals in January of 2011. I got excited thinking about becoming healthier. I said I’d be obedient to God, face the reality of my faith, and learn from Jesus how to think and see the way he does.
But, by late February, my enthusiasm faded and I slipped back into my old patterns, never following through on my good intentions. And then the next thing I knew, the decade was over and I wasn’t any closer to fulfilling my purpose.
Decision Time TODAY – You may already see how God is changing your life and guiding you toward your goals. You may be living with an edge-of-your-seat faith that has you excitedly asking, “What’s next, Jesus? What are you going to do through me today?”
Yet some of us started off with enthusiasm, but we’ve gotten distracted and we’re slipping back into the way we’ve always lived. If we don’t stop the slide now, we’re in danger of simply wandering through the next decade, saying we’ll get around to it as the months become years and the years become a decade.
God wants you to succeed and to fulfill the destiny he planned for you. Have you set goals? Are you following through on them? Are you staying serious about God changing your life?
If not, get back on track today, not tomorrow, not next week. Jesus wants you to live an extraordinary life, full of grace and truth. “And his commands are not too hard for us.” (1 John 5:3 TEV)
